Listening Sessions – Fall 2015
Starting in late summer 2015, the 20/20 Club began engaging 2016 Presidential candidates and party leadership through intimate roundtable Q&A style Presidential Listening Sessions. These sessions focused on the stance the candidates had on criminal justice reform, community policing and the dispensation of justice as it relates to the African-American community. Members of the 20/20 Club met with Governor Martin O’Malley, Democratic Candidate for Candidate for President, on August 4, 2015, in South Carolina, covered live by CNN & Politico. Members of the 20/20 Club with Pratt Wiley from the Democratic National Committee on September 18, 2015, in Washington D.C. Members of the 20/20 Club discussed the incorporation of criminal justice issues in the GOP Platform with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on November 5, 2015, in Orlando, Florida.
2015 Presidential Justice Forum – November 21, 2015
On November 21, 2015, 20/20 Leaders of America, together with the National Black Police Association, the National League of Cities Black Caucus, Insight America and IMPACT, hosted the 2015 Presidential Justice Forum at the historic Allen University in Columbia, SC. Former South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges and Attorney General Alan Wilson were co-hosts. Facebook was the Title Sponsor of the Forum, which was co-produced by BET and live streamed on BET.com reaching over 3 million people across the globe.
20/20 Day on the Hill – March 16, 2016
For the Presidential Justice Forum, the 20/20 Club partnered with the National Black Police Association (NBPA). In 2016, the 20/20 Club added the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) as a partner in our efforts to lobby members of the House of Representatives and the Senate to pass the 2015 Sentencing Reforms and Corrections Act.
On March 16, 2016, 20/20 Club CEO Ashley Bell and 20/20 Leaders Gianno Caldwell (20/20 Club Lobbyist), Dallas Deputy Police Chief Malik Aziz (Chairman of NBPA) and Dwayne Crawford (Executive Director of NOBLE) met with Senate and House Leadership in Washington, D.C. to lobby on behalf of the bipartisan Sentencing Reform & Corrections Act. These efforts are continuing.
2016 Republican National Convention Party with A Purpose: CODE (Red) – July 19, 2016
Only July 19, 2016, the 20/20 Club hosted “Code Red: Party with a Purpose,” a first of its kind social event during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Black GOP members of 20/20 engaged with convention attendees and gave live media interviews, making the conservative case for criminal justice reform.
2016 Democratic National Convention Criminal Justice Forum – July 26, 2016
On July 26, 2016, we hosted our 2016 Criminal Justice Forum at the African-American Museum in Philadelphia, as part of the events taking place during the Democratic National Convention. We had over 100 attendees and many thousands more watching the live stream provided by our media partner, Fusion.
